The Hollows Series by Kim Harrison

I loved this series by Kim Harrison and I fully plan to finish it someday. I have read more books than I have reviewed here. The last few book I read were right in a row and I couldn't remember where one ended and the other began.

I am going to be honest with you though while I enjoyed the first book I did not like Rachel Morgan the main character at all. What drew me into the series was how Rachel grows into a better decision maker and learns to control here crazy impulses without sacrificing her sassy, confident attitude. I had three books when I started the series and I figured I had to finish them so I started the second book and just couldn't put it down. With each book I began to love many of the side characters and love to hate some of the others. I also developed a fondness for Rachel and the predicaments she gets herself into.

With all the fantasy in these books you get a up close an personal look inside the lives of these characters. Kim Harrison does an amazing job creating real world problems related to living in a magical environment. You can't  beat a story with a witch, a pixie, and a vampire in a world where tomatoes brought on a sickness that nearly wiped out the human race revealing the existence  of supernatural beings who were not affectd by the disease.

Silver Borne Book Review

Silver Borne (Mercy Thompson, Book 5) by Patricia Briggs

I had been putting off reading this book because I knew once I picked it up I wouldn't be able to put it down. I have a fondness for Mercy Thompson and her coyote. Mercy spent a bit too much time in her human skin for me in this book but I can honestly say that was the only thing I didn't like about this book.

This book has a lot going on and all of it is interesting. As is usual in this series a lot of seemingly unrelated things happen in the first few chapters and then they become an intricate web of some big bad master plan. This adventure revolves around a magical fae book she borrowed. Returning the book proves to be a challenge as the owner is missing and strange and sometimes unfriendly fae are blocking her investigation.

Mercy is Adams mate now and she is having major issues with the mate and pack bonds.She doesn't like having the pack in her head. Their union has caused a great deal of unrest in the pack. Many of the members don't believe that a coyote is fit for the pack Alpha and they are plotting against her. Adam is impressive in this book and he deals very well with just about everything that comes his way even the massive panic attacks that Mercy suffers from. Now I am not saying that he isn't possessive and overbearing at times but he tries really hard to let Mercy be herself. They are a fun couple and I just love the interaction between them.

There was a time where I was kind of torn between Mercy's two love interests and kind of rooting for Samuel  a little because he was just like a big puppy most of the time instead of a wolf. One that could be lethal if needed but calm and cool the majority of the time. Samuel is an old wolf and he has lost the battle for Mercy's affections, he is depressed and wants to end his life. He sees nothing to live for and he spends a great deal of this book as a big white wolf. Mercy is charged with finding a reason for Samuel to want to live on top of her busy schedule of finding Phin, the bookstore owner, and making peace with the pack.

While I love the these books I would really hate to be Mercy Thompson as she never seems to catch a break. If it were not for Zee and her trusty helper Gabriel she would not be able to keep her auto shop open as she is always running around fixing fae, vampire, and wolf problems. She seems to have very little time for working on cars. She never gets to sit down and just breath or get on all fours and run. It makes for some great reading and I highly recommend you pick this book up. This book gets 5 out of 5 stars.

You Give Me Fever

Okay, so, WOW. This book was completely different from Shiver. Yes, it has the same characters but it is not based on love. Yes, Sam and Grace are still in love with each other but the majority of the book is about independence, defiance, and coming to terms with life altering events that are out of their control.

Grace and Sam are soul mates. They are meant to be together but for some reason life keep getting in their way. The story began in Shiver with a boy who is a wolf loving a girl who is a human but now the roles have reversed. Now the girl becoming a wolf is desperately trying to hold onto her humanity to be with the human boy she loves.

Now that we have discussed Grace and Sam lets move onto Isabel and Cole. Isabel is a not so nice girl in a smokin' hot body. She is popular and materialistic. Both of her parents cope with life through alcohol, drugs, and work; pretty much leaving her to herself and her parents money. But the best part about Isabel is that she is Grace's friend. They have nothing in common but the fact that they share the same secret -- the knowledge of the "wolves". And that brings us to Cole.

Cole is one of the recent additions to the "pack". Before the leader of the pack changed into a full-time wolf he made three new pack members to take care of business, this is where Cole came in at the end of Shiver. Although, I still don't know what Beck was thinking because Cole is unstable, self loathing, and careless. But for some unknown reason Isabel is the one to break him.

Isabel and Cole are my favorite characters in this book. They are both so boxed up and closed off from everyone but each other. They open up to each other and it makes their characters blossom, yet they are not a couple. Physically attracted to each other, yes. Together, no. They are a team, both trying to cope with their hardships and both trying to help Grace and Sam.

Throughout the book Grace is unusually sick. Her nose keeps bleeding, she has a horrible fever and a headache from hell. Everyone knows there is something wrong with her, but the people that know what it is are to afraid to said it out loud. Although, what everyone thought is completely ass backwards and the twist in the end of this book is so far off in left field that you will NEVER see it coming.

What I also didn't see coming was the lack of love in this book. Quite honestly it felt more like obsession and desperation. This book was full of fear. The fear that you are leaving someone or something behind. Don't get me wrong, it's a great book! It's just not what I expected. Although, I do not like where this book left off I am still willing to give it an 8 out of 10. Maggie's writing style is still amazing and she allowed her characters an amazing amount of feelings -- fear, love, lust, angst, sadness, disgust, and many others. Her characters have definitely grown from the previous book. =)

I am impatiently awaiting the arrival of the third and final book Forever!

Do You Feel A Chill?

Maggie Stiefvater has changed things up a bit for the werewolves in The Wolves of Mercy Falls: Shiver. Around here it's not the moon that changes these humans into wolves, its the weather. And although the wolves are a major part of the story line, the book revolves around a very responsible high school student named Grace.

Grace loves the winter because that is when she gets to see her wolf. The wolf with the yellow eyes. The wolf that seems to be able to see into her soul. The wolf that saved her the night the other wolves attacked.

But there is something different about these wolves, something she can't quite put her finger on. But that doesn't last for long. Once you dive into Grace's adventure you will learn about two different worlds. Grace's world with her wolves and Grace's world with her Sam.

Sam is the one Grace has been waiting for all of her life, but he hides a horrendous secret that threatens to separate their lives forever. Can he trust Grace with this secret and enlist her help? And is love enough to keep them together if this secret is revealed?

This is a truly wonderful story filled with first loves, life struggles, and most of all our most basic instinct: survival.

Magic Mourns

Yesterday I had the pleasure of finally reading the Kate Daniels short story from Must Love Hellhounds. It truly was a pleasure even though Kate was not a big player in this short story. Andrea and Rafael are front and center in this unbelievable tale.

Kate is on medical leave and Andrea is filling in for her. While most callers hang up when the realize Kate isn't in, one caller does tell her to tell Kate that a shape-shifter is being chased by a dog the size of a house with his tail on fire. So Andrea packs up her guns and goes out to investigate.

Well the dog really is the size of a house and I am sure you can guess who she has to rescue from the huge monster that drools fire. If not I am going to tell you because I knew well before Andrea knew that it was in fact Rafael. She had been trying to avoid his advances and very early on you get a big clue that it is him.

Once she discovers who needs protecting you get into a fun and exciting story line that includes Hades and some special apples that are supposed to give youth. Oh and I don't want to forget a few vampires a necromancer and a dead guy that can still communicate with the living. While the action and the mythology are great the best part was learning more about Andrea and Rafael. Even if I never read the rest of this book it was worth the buy for this one story.

It is a short story so I think I should stop there so I don't spoil anything for those that want to read it. I am very tempted to ignore my to be read books and read this series again.

My Review

On the Edge (The Edge, Book 1) is one of the best books I have read in quite some time. I could barely put it down. I had to put it down to get some sleep and then the book invaded my dreams. I am still having some trouble sticking to my book budget that says wait until you get your Amazon gift card next month and you can buy the next one. 

Again this husband and wife writing team crate an very strange mix of three very different and distinct worlds. You really get a sense of the world between our world and the magical world. I don't know how they do it but the writing is superb. You don't have a lot of boring information about the world. They bring you into the lives of the characters and at the same time show you an amazing world and tell a great story. I have found myself bored in many books as they describe the city streets right down to the shape and size of the sewer grates. This never happens in On the Edge.

I was in love with Rose and her family from the first page to the last. There was nothing that I didn't like about this book! Rose and her two brothers live in the Edge. She takes care of her family because her mother is dead and her dad took off. Rose has a crappy job in the Broken(where technology rules and magic is useless) but she finds work where ever she can. Rose does what it takes to take care of her family and she is a very strong and lovable character. 

Rose and her brothers are gifted with magical powers. One brother can raise the dead and the other can change into a cat. Rose is very special and very powerful and because of that she has suitors coming out of the woodwork from the Weird. They really don't want her they just want her to make them some special and powerful babies. 

Now might be a good time to mention Declan who shows up from the Weird and gives Rose the chance to win freedom in a game. She is to give him three challenges to complete and if he does he wins her if he loses he promises to leave her alone. An increasing amount of disturbing events in the Edge and the need to work if she wants to feed the boys keep Rose distracted and issuing the tests become a secondary priority.

Strange creatures stalking people in the Edge with magical powers are appearing everywhere. In an effort to protect the Edge and her family Rose and Declan put their differences aside to solve the problems. The tension between them is often thick it makes for such fun reading. I am tempted to pick the book back up and read it again simply because I am writing about it now. 

Each and every relationship in this book was rich and full of emotion. From the sexual tension between Rose and Declan to the enjoyable antics of Jack and his cat like behavior. This book gets 5 out of 5 stars.

Magic Bleeds Book Review

First I want to say I am really sorry it took so long getting this book review to you. I have been struggling to write something that does the book justice and then I got sick.

Magic Bleeds (Kate Daniels, Book 4)

This book starts with Kate working to fight some sort of magic gone bad. She is headed home  when she gets the last minute call sending her to a bar fight. When she gets there it is not just any bar fight and she must try to contain the infectious evil magic that is left behind. Somehow a stranger came into the bar and caused all the men to go crazy and start fighting one another.

As Kate begins to investigate she finds that similar things have been brewing in other cities. No one can understands who or what could have done this and they all seem too happy to give the case over to Kate.

Then the perpetrator attacks The People and the Mercenaries Guild with no consequence. They walk right in take what they want kill a few people and leave. The worst part is no one can really rememberer what they saw. Every time Kate uncovers something new she ends up with more questions and more dead ends. This case takes a surprising twist that I was not expecting but it makes for a crazy and exciting ride.

The side story is Kate and Curran and their multiple misunderstanding. These two really should start talking to each other rather than just assuming things. Early in the book things go sour but as usual they are able to set that aside and work together to solve the case. Throw Simian into the mix and you nearly have a casualty of the crazy romance in these books. It is probably the insanity of it that draws me to it so I am not complaining.

Something I don't think I have mentioned before is how in each book Kate changes a little. It is something I like a lot and is much more realistic than when a character just decides to change. Kate starts out as a hard and even sometimes cold woman. She was brought up to trust no one and she keeps her emotions locked away. Each progressive book she begins to chip away at the wall she has built up as she learns to trust others.

I am sorry this is a short review but I am really afraid of giving away too much. There are so many twists and turns in this book that one sentence could ruin it for you.

I love these books and this one was no exception. This book gets 5 out of 5 stars. If you have not started this series yet it is one of the few that has kept my attention. I love the writing, the world and the characters. These books are the best of it all.

Magic Bleeds and On The Edge Book Reviews

I am very sorry that I missed the Tuesday Teaser this week I had a strange schedule this week for work and I have been trying to work out and clean the house and do all the things I tent to put off when I pick up a good book.

I did read a Kate Daniels short story from Dark and Stormy Knights and I have another to read from Must Love Hellhounds. When I complete those I will write up a little review for them because over the next 7-10 days I want to give you some insight into my favorite pair of writers.

I can't say it enough but it is well worth the investment to buy the Kate Daniels series. I promise you won't be disappointed each book is action packed with an interesting take on a world stuck between magic and technology.

As far as I can tell after my meeting with my boss tomorrow I will have a lot more time for reading and writing. I might pick up a few extra shifts next week but I should have enough time to get this series finished and start a new book.

Vampire Academy Book Review

Vampire Academy (Vampire Academy, Book 1) by Richelle Mead is the first book in a series with a different twist on vampires than I am used to.

First some explanation of terms:
Moroi-- mortal vampire, strong and powerful but susceptible to death like humans.
Strigoi--Dead vampire can only be killed by limited methods, very strong and very bad.
Dhampir--Bad ass half human half vamp in charge of protecting the Moroi

Now we have Lisa as the last in her Moroi blood line who has a intimate connection with Rose a Dhampir that she has run away with. They share a bond that helps Rose protect Lisa.

When the book opens they are runaways who left the Academy and are being hunted. They are eventually taken back to the Academy and that is where the story really gets good. They are both behind in the respective studies and they are separated as a punishment.

Rose was only able to stay at the academy if she promised to take some extra lessons with Dimitri a very powerful Dhampir. He guides her on the right path for protecting Lisa and he is just one of those mentors you have to love. Rose learned quickly that she was not prepared to protect Lisa and worked very hard to improve.

I liked Rose even when I was thinking she was an impulsive idiot. She was rather impulsive at times but most of the time she had one goal. What she was born to do, to protect Moroi, was her never far from her mind. She was going to protect Lisa no matter who got in her way. She didn't always do it well but she was determined to do her best.

I was really surprised at how well this character was written considering this was a teen novel. I am generally really annoyed by the characters in teen novels and this one was quite different. Rose handled herself well in tough situations and while you could sense the teen angst in her she was not stupid most of the time.

Lisa is a strange character and I couldn't get a good read on her through out the book I am still not sure if I like her or not. She and all the other Moroi have the ability to use magic but she struggles with specializing in one form of magic. She is tormented by some crazy person leaving dead animals in her wake. There is also the new girlfriend of her x that is determined to ruin her life and Rose's too.

Lisa doesn't handle the stress well and does some crazy things to relieve it. Rose cares for her and tries to help her through these times while still keeping her secrets and things just wind up out of control. There are so many twists and turns in this one book you will be guessing until the end. I very much enjoyed this book. I felt only one thing was lacking for me and that was action. My best guess is this book was about developing characters and that was done very well. There was a bit of action toward the end but not much. Also while I bought the romance I would have have a feeling I am not going to like it much in future books.

I am putting the next book on my to get list as I really enjoyed this one. I am going to give it 4 out of 5 stars and hope the action picks up.

Book Reviews Coming Soon

I have three books that I have not reviewed yet. I am really tired today as I worked 6:45 pm on Tuesday to 7:15 am today and then my phone woke me up before I got enough sleep. It gave me the time to finish the book I started though. I am still not quite awake and it is nearly 6.

So I have a review coming for the teen series Vampire Academy. I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I usually have trouble with the teens in books and their snotty attitudes and extreme behavior. This was not the case for this book but it is the first in the series.

I also have reviews coming for Magic Bleeds and On The Edge by Illona Andrews. If you have not already guessed it might take me some time to get these reviews out. I want to do the books justice. I very rarely run across an author that makes me crave more each time I read a book. These books have just the right amount of romance and loads of action. There is magic her with this husband and wife writing team. I absolutely loved both books and now I have a new series I will follow absolutely.
I have a bunch of books in my to be read pile as well and I might spend the next few days getting a list together so I can post it here. I would love to hear opinions on which book to read next. I have a few that I have read one or two in a series and I intend to finish them first. The problem is sometimes I am just not feeling a book and I would rather read a book I am in the mood for. Sometimes I want a vampire book sometimes I don't.

At Grave's End Book Review

At Grave's End (Night Huntress, Book 3) is a great addition to the series. I forgot how much I liked these books until I picked this one up from my large to be read pile.

Cat is half human half vampire and her boyfriend Bones is all vampire. I love the romance in these books or sometimes the lack of romance. The relationship is full of tension as it is and ad Tate a friend and co-worker of Cat's who is madly in love with her and is not shy in saying so. It really makes for some fun reading. There is a lot of tension between Bones and Tate but they both prove to be excellent at protecting Cat.

Cat, also known as the Red Reaper, and her team spend much of their time hunting vampires who kill humans. They are good at what they do until the Red Reaper is recognized three times in a row. Cat can't go undercover again and she seems to be on the hit list for some pretty powerful vamps now as well. The is a war brewing in the vampire community and Cat has to decide if she favors her vampire lineage or her human line.

Since Cat can't work as bate anymore they try using another female vampire to work as bate. This doesn't work out as planned and starts a chain reaction that forms the rest of the book. The vampires that get away in this run are in touch with some pretty powerful vampires that have a grudge against Cat and Bones. This book is full of action from start to finish and a good bit of romance mixed in at all the right times.

You get a lot of interesting tidbits with Cats mom as she realizes she might be a little wrong about the supernatural world. While it is a minor part of the book you get some great laughs with these developments. One will also notice a few more great developments in secondary characters and they also introduce Vlad (Dracula) into the story line.

This book deserves the best possible rating 5 out of 5 stars.

Kitty Goes To Washington Book Review

Kitty Goes to Washington is the second book in the Kitty Norville series by Carrie Vaughn. Kitty is a lone wolf that has taken her radio show, The Midnight Hour, on the road. She has no pack and no place to live she travels from city to city broadcasting her supernatural help line. She caters to vampires and werewolves and all sorts of other things that no one believes exist.

In this book Kitty is called to Washington to testify at a committee hearing for supernatural research. As soon as she hits the city limits she is hauled off by the city's head vampire and placed under her protection. She meets a fascinating bunch of were-animals as she explores the city and even starts a romance with a were-panther. Cormack the hired killer of all things that go bump in the night makes an appearance in the book as well.

In this book you start to learn more about the super secret branch of government that studies supernatural creatures and what they plan to do with that knowledge. You also get an front seat viewing of the cult that claimed to cure vampires and werewolves of there afflictions. You also meet a few new interesting characters along the way.

I was bored by the romance in this book it was flat and felt wrong to me. I kept thinking it was just a fling but I suppose the next book will clear that up. I would have liked to see Cormack a little more as well. I was a little disappointed in this book for quite some time.

 I just kept wondering when something exciting would happen. It started slow and I thought the story lines were roughly pulled together but after a while I found I was wrong. I highly enjoyed the book after the action started. The only thing that I really didn't like is you didn't get to see much of Kitty as a wolf and what you did see was not spectacular.

So I am going to give this book 3 out of 5 stars. I liked it but it has a slow start and there could have been much more interesting  action scenes. I would love to read the next book because there were some hints of some great romantic tension to come. I loved the first book because of the interaction between Kitty and her wolf and this book was really lacking in that.

New Book Reviews Comming Soon

In the last few weeks I have read three books that I am working on reviewing. I also worked 42.5 hours this week in four days. I have been too tired to really type a review. I read Kitty Goes to Washington, The Vampire Academy and Magic Bleeds. I enjoyed them all to varying degrees.

I hope to have the reviews out spread over the next week. Right now I only have on 12.5 hour shift scheduled for next week. I will take more work if it is offered but I am looking forward to a light week for the most part. Working at home has been great. I do love my new job and I would not have been able to do some of these long shifts without reading material.

I also ordered a few more books. I ordered The Edge by one of my favorite Authors Illona Andrews and a few anthologies with Kate Daniels short stories in them. I am still waiting on the next Mercy Thompson book and I preordered Magic Slays (Kate Daniels, Book 5) but it is a super long wait. I am half tempted to order the next Vampire academy book to but I really have to read some of the books I already have. Maybe I should look for some sort of book exchange for the books I really want to finish the series but don't really want to keep them all.

Revelations Blue Bloods Book 3 Review

Revelations is the third book in the Blue Bloods Series by Melissa De La Cruz. The first two reviews Blue Bloods and Masquerade can be found by clicking on the links. I liked this book much better than the last one. There was quite a bit of action toward the end of the book and as promised some surprising revelations.

The story line is coming together nicely in this book. You learn so much more about the characters and the developments are amazing. So by the end of the book you know who many of the silver bloods are and who some of the blue bloods that are on the wrong side of the game are.

I am still having a hard time buying this whole vampire angel thing but in this book I started to forget about it. I usually don't have a hard time shutting off my reality meter when reading fiction but until this book I just was not buying the theory. I am not sure I ever will but it is getting good enough that I can just go with the flow. I am giving this book a 4 out of 5 stars because I really do want to know what happens next.

In this book you get to see Schuyler develop as a young woman in love as well as a very powerful blue blood. You get to see her grow up a little and make some tough choices and you get to see her realize some of her power. Under the guidance of her grandfather she and many of the other blue bloods are preparing for war. They once lax council is no longer protecting the innocence of the young vampires but teaching them to wield their power when needed. Schuyler has been sent to live with the Force family but she is still learning a great deal as her grandfather has taken over the council.

Schuyler is on stage for a big fashion event and she senses a great evil and she just runs off stage right to her grandfather. He gives her a pep talk and shortly thereafter is summoned away. This is where the story gets really good and you really need to read the book to find out more.

Along the way I really started to fall in love with Oliver, Schuyler best friend and human conduit as well as her human familiar. He is a great guy any way you look at it and I can see a future of great pain for him. I can also see me crying my eyes out when he gets hurt because I tend to like him too much.

In this book you also get to see Dylan again and learn a great deal about what made him crazy. You learn more about Bliss and her sister and the plot twists here are amazing. I had my suspicions from the last book but what happens will really blow you away.


All in all I am glad I read the first two books to get to this one. The plot that they were hinting at in the first few books really comes together nicely in this one. You have two types of vampires that are going to go to war. They were almost all fallen angels and a few that came to fight of their own free will. The blue bloods were those who chose not to follow Lucifer and the silver bloods are those who follow him. There are those who have changed sides and those who are still on the fence but you will soon learn more.

Ordered the Next Kate Daniels Book

I have rad the first three in the Kate Daniels series and loved every minute of each book. You can find a post with links to the reviews here. I wanted this book ages ago but I put a halt to my book spending. I still have many unread books but I have decided that I will keep up with 2-4 series and just my favorites.

I have two that I just can't give up reading, the other one is the Mercy Thompson series. I can't get enough of these books and I have a few others I might be considering after I finish a few more of my unread books but I wanted to keep a few slots open for new treasures.

I have Silver Borne (Mercy Thompson, Book 5) on pre-order because I am too I can't see spending twice as much for the hard cover when I just have to wait a little over a month for the paperback that matches the rest of my collection.

Masquerade by Melissa De La Cruz Book Review

Masquerade is the second book in the Blue Bloods Series by Melissa De La Cruz. You can find the review for the first book here. I can say I don't regret reading this book because it was entertaining. It helped me get through my first overnight shift once I could no longer read work related material and stay awake.

That being said I couldn't say I really loved the book either. The entire book felt like a set up for the next book. Since the book is short that may very well be what it was.

In review there are these vampire like beings that are actually angels...or rather fallen angels. They call themselves blue bloods. Schuyler is the only half blood among them as her mother took a human mate. There is some crazy thing going on where they are all come back after death into a new cycle and are forbidden to change anything. They are even supposed to keep the same mates unless one dies. So what her mother did was forbidden and now she is in a place of stasis. Schuyler is in love with a vampire that is has a mate and that is a great little side story.

There are also a band of really evil fallen angels that are called the silver bloods. There leader is Lucifer and they are a real nasty bunch. They feed off of their own kind and they are...well you don't learn much more about them in this book. You really don't learn that much about anyone in this book.

You find out little bits and pieces about Schuyler her and her friends Oliver and Bliss but you just get small juicy bits that lead your mind down a new path. I can't tell you or it will spoil you reading experience. You do not get much as far as romance goes in this book and you get very little action. You learn how far Mimi Force will go to get Schuyler out of the way but that is about all there is to this book.

My advice is that if you liked the first book just think of the second book as a transitional book that you need to read to understand the third book. While it was entertaining it was not really a great book. I wouldn't call it a waste of time but I am rather disappointed. I am only giving this book 2 of 5 stars . I just finished the third book and I will have a review for that soon.

Grave Sight by Charliane Harris Book Review

I couldn't sleep last night even though I was tired so I went to my spare room with all the books I have not read and after a few minutes decided on this book. I didn't really want to read another vampire book. Not that I am burned out on vamps but I just wanted something different. I love Charlaine Harris and her writing style appeals to me so I chose a book with a whole new supernatural theme.

Grave Sight is the first book in the Harper Connelley Mysteries. I picked it up and read for hours then I slept a few hours and spent the better part of my Sunday reading. I can't say it was full of action and suspense but it was full intrigue and mystery and just a touch of the supernatural. I like a good mystery and this book delivered.

It was a fun read and a great set up story for some interesting characters in the books to come. Harper Connely is the main character along with her brother Tolliver. They travel around to help people find their missing loved ones. Harper has a unique gift that gives  her the ability to sense dead people and when she finds them she can tell the cause of death. She was stuck by lightning as a child and has had the gift since then and she use it to make a living. She is summoned to a town to find a girl that has been missing and presumed dead. She does her job and leaves when she gets summoned back to the town because they were the last people to talk to a woman who was murdered the day they left. They come back and end up stuck there trying to solve a mystery and that is not in their job description.

As they are drug deeper into this case they discover there is a killer on the loose and that their lives are in danger. I liked the book a lot but I had much of the mystery figured out well before the end of the book. I enjoyed watching it come together in the end and Harris did tie up all the loose ends. I won't spoil it for anyone else but I did know the why and the who for quite some time. Maybe it is because I watch and read a lot of stuff like this. Maybe it was supposed to be predictable but no matter what I did enjoy the book and if I can find more at the library I will read them. I give this book 3.5 out out of five stars.

Although there is much more to Shadowfae by Erica Hayes, there is defiantly A LOT OF SEX in this book. There is also quite a bit of language. To enjoy Erica's writing I don't believe you can be offended easily. So,if the F-Bomb is on your No-No list, then please steer clear of her work. With that said, lets get down to business.

Jade the succubus, Rajah the incubus -- both enslaved by Kane, the demon lord. They do his bidding, kill his enemies, and service him when needed. They will never die, never age, and will NEVER be free. Or so this is what they have been lead to believe.

My Sister Has Joined the Blogging Community!

I told here she would be an awesome blogger. She has a great personality .......sometimes over the top for me but I love here anyway. She is the mom of two awesome boys and has loads of fun experiences to share. She is full of humor and sarcasm and I am sure that helps her keep sane as an awesome single mom. Don't know how she does it but I am really proud of her.  The part my Dark Novels readers will be interested in is that she is an avid reader and she plans to review the books she is reading. She reads a lot of books similar to what I read so here is a taste of her first blog post.

Just two days ago I picked up the first book in Kelley's Otherworld series. I found it quite hard to put down, finishing the 436 pages in less than 48 hours.

I'm not great with compassion, I prefer a side of sarcasm. The main character Elena Michaels hands that to me on a silver platter. I do quite enjoy this characters personality. She is a strong woman with a lot of spunk! Along with the fact that she is the only female werewolf... which makes her extremely bad ass!

Hunting Ground by Patricia Briggs Book Review

Hunting Ground by Patricia Brigs is the second book in the Alpha and Omega series. If you would like to read the first review you can click Cry Wolf. Anna and Charles are werewolves in the Alpha pack of North American wolves. Anna is an Omega and has the rare ability to bring peace and stability to a pack and bring calm to wolves in a nasty situation. She and Charles her mate are sent as ambassadors to an international meeting of werewolf packs to discuss the details of bringing their existence public.


While Charles is negotiating with the packs Anna is sent shopping with an escort of course. They are attacked and with the aid of an absolutely awesome witch and her mate they manage to take out several of the vampires that ambushed them. The search is on for the reason behind the attack as more wolves are attacked. Charles is busy so Anna picks up the investigative details. Not all of the wolves are too happy about their existence becoming public so there is plenty of reason for wolves to hire vampires to take out important figures like the son or the Marrok (head of the North American wolves) and his mate


This book felt rushed to me there was a lot of information and not enough character development. You got to meet packs from all over the world and you didn't learn much about any of them. You also got to meet an awesome witch and another omega that would have added a great deal to the book if they had been fleshed out a little more. The fey plays a key role in the book but you get to know little about here as well. What I really wish there was more of is the relationship between Charles and Anna.


This book was fun but very short and lacking in details. I liked the first book a lot better as it took more of a look into the lives of Anna and Charles and their wolves. This book felt shallow to me and while the story was good it was more like a long short story than a book. I would have liked to see much more of the inner lives and turmoil that the characters faced. There was a really good scene with Anna and her jealous wolf and a female fey that was a once her mates lover.


I would still recommend this book but I was not one of my favorites so I am giving it 3 out of 5 stars.
