Vampire Diaries

>> Monday, February 14, 2011

Over the last 6 or so weeks I have been watching every episode of this amazing show.I know there are books but I think I have to wait to start a new series of books.

I am pretty sure you need to start with season 1 and work your way through. I just finished the latest episode and I know you would have needed to see a good chunk of this season to have a clue what it meant.

Even if I didn't like the show I may have to watch if because I am just loving the Damon Salvatore character pictured here in my blog post. He is that bad boy that everyone loves to hate but he has a soft spot that only one person seems to get to. Plus he is just HOT! Since I don't say that much about any television or movie stars I am guessing I won't be the only one thinking that.

The basic plot is that in Mystic Falls there is a long history of vampire activity. It had been pretty quiet before Stefan and Damon Salvatore show up. Stefan begins dating Elaina who looks just like this vampire he and his brother loved in the not so recent past. This is the vampire that sired both of them. Needless to say this creates a bunch of drama. There are people in Mystic Falls that know about vampires and how to get rid of them.

So there are good vampires and there are bad vampires and there are people who don't like any vampires. There are a few interesting romances and there is of course the rivalry between two brothers and one woman. It makes for so much fun I just can't wait for the next episode each week. Since I don't have cable I do have to wait until they post it on line.

If you like a good vampire book you will love this show. I am hoping to pick up the books at some point but for now I just love watching Damon work out his crazy obsessions and figure out who he really is.

Resident Evil First Movie

>> Thursday, September 9, 2010

I tried to find a high quality trailer for this movie but it was hard. The movie is old and the trailer above will have to do.

I have to say I wasn't sure I wanted to see this before we watched it for the first time. I was never really into horror movies and I was afraid it would give me nightmares for weeks. I suppose that horror the best category for all of these movies but that is not what came to my mind when I thought of a horror movie. I still won't watch any of your "slasher" films. I don't want to see some sick phyco chopping people up for the fun of it. Now on the other hand I love to see humans killing zombies and all sorts of other creatures.

In this movie a military team is sent in to a secret underground facility called the "Hive" where scientists are testing biological weapons. Unfortunately for this tactical team the reason the Hive is locked down is because a chemical was released and has turned the people inside into zombies. The computer has locked down the facility to keep from further contamination. The computer is malfunctioning and it is the job of the tactical team to fix it. The Umbrella corporation, the mastermind behind the facility has deployed Alice to aide in fixing their little mishap. Only problem is Alice can't even remember who she is let alone what she needs to do. She figures out a little at a time that she is no ordinary human and we get to see her kick some zombie ass well before the end of the movie.

So if you have not seen this movie yet run to your local store and grab a copy or better yet click on the link and buy one from amazon. It is a great movie have fun watching, I know I did.

I still can't wait to see the new movie, I am working Friday so it will be Saturday or Sunday at the earliest.

Resident Evil Afterlife is Out Friday!!

>> Wednesday, September 8, 2010

For your enjoyment I have provided you with a preview for the first movie I actually plan on leaving the house to attend in years. I am so excited for this movie. I loved the first three movies, and yes I know they are completely unrealistic and the acting isn't all around great. What they are is a lot of fun! When I need a boost for my workouts I pop one of these movies. They are about 90 minutes each they make the time fly while on the treadmill. I may just watch one a day until I get to go see the movie and that will make for a great work out too.

I think I will do that and then provide you with a quick write up about each one since right now I don't remember where one ends and the next one begins. If you have never seen the movies or played the games you might want to know the background and I am here to provide it for you.

Alice (Milla Jovovich) is in all the movies she was altered by a virus invented by the Umbrella Corporation that injected in most humans would cause them to become like zombies. Alice though was an experiment and she has become an awesome zombie fighting machine. The zombies spread the virus as most zombies do once your are bitten you become one and you just want to eat people. The further the movies progress the more you learn about Umbrella's evil intentions try to harness these creatures and control them.

These are the most exciting zombie movies I have ever had the pleasure of watching. I have seen plenty of zombie movies and these are my favorite. Why you ask? To that I respond a am one of those gals who loves to watch a movie where the lead is a woman who can really kick ass. Oh yes and lets not forget all the firepower and explosions.

If you like the only way you like your movies served is detailed characterless development with loads of deep and inspiring plot lines you need to skip these movies. If you are like me and you love to watch zombies get killed in just about every way possible with a few random explosions thrown in for good measure you absolutely have to watch these movies.

Now to find someone who will go with me this weekend to see it. I will go by myself if I have to but it would be great to go with someone.

Being Human Season One Review

>> Monday, September 6, 2010

One ghost, one vampire and one human share a home in this series. They are close friends and they face many hurdles. George the werewolf is terrified that he will hurt someone when he changes every full moon. Mitchell the vampire is trying not to drink blood. Annie the ghost is trying to figure out why she is a ghost and make the most of it.

I loves the mix of character personalities as they try to live normal human lives. Mitchell has a confident exterior with a dark personal struggle. George is the one with his issues written on his forehead. He is nervous and paranoid and lacking in people skills. Annie really is my favorite as she is friendly and loyal and she cares for her housemates in the midst of her own struggles.

I have to say this is a must see on my list but I a well aware of those of you who don't like the vampire/werewolf rules to be ignored. If you are a stickler on the fact that vampires don't go out in the daylight you may want to pass on this one. They don't follow much of the traditional lore or even modern versions of vampires, werewolves.  They seem to have created the characters and their struggles and then added whatever supernatural aspects they thought would work around the story.

I can't wait until I get the second season of this series. I would highly recommend this series.

Saving Grace

>> Wednesday, July 14, 2010

Okay if this video works it is a little something for those out there who are looking for something fun to watch. I have been doing a lot of soul searching lately and that is why I have not been around for a while. I didn't think I would like Saving Grace because it really is not my thing. I was thinking it was going to be something like Touched by an Angel you know the touchy feely stuff that makes me want to puke. I was so wrong! I love this show and I have in a month watched the first two seasons.

I thought I would try it but kept thinking that it would be some religious crap that I just didn't want to hear right now. I could always send the disc back to Netflix and never think about it again. I was already questioning if I even had any faith anymore and that journey started with ups and downs highs and lows a good 6 years ago when something that felt devastating happened in my life. I still can't talk about it but with a few people I really trust.

After I got a few episodes into this series I realized that is was not going to be what I expected and it gave me some motivation to open up a little and maybe get out of the cell I have locked my emotions up in. I still have a long way to go but you know it reminded me more than anything of God's amazing grace. I am nothing like Grace in fact I might be a little more like her sister Page if you have to compare me to someone. I look like I have it all together to the people looking in from the outside but really my life is a mess.

So all that being said I just loved the show. I loved the whole concept of God sending Grace a second chance Angel. I love how it takes you through a journey where she starts to change but also how you see what happens in the lives of those around her. I also like to see that they don't spend a whole lot of time with a bunch of crap about how God says this is a sin and how you can't do this or that and get to heaven.

For me I hated Grace to start with and as I learned more about her past I felt I could understand where she was coming from. Even though I still hate some of the things she does in the show I can feel for her character and maybe sometimes i am a little jealous of the way she feels free to be herself at times.

I know it is just a television show but it really made me think again about how different each individual is and how I never know what the person sitting next to me is really going through at that moment. Some people are just stupid but most people are more complicated than that and could probably use a little GRACE

True Blood Season 2 Review

>> Thursday, June 10, 2010

True Blood Season two was amazing. Just in case you don't already know this show is for adults only! It is full of graphic sex and you do not want sensitive eyes to see. So why did I like it so much you ask? It was probably because of the focus on characters that don't get enough attention in the books. I was really hoping for the Eric in spandex scene (you will know what I am talking about if you read the books) but it was not in there but neither were most of the scenes from the book.
It was easier to stomach this season because they have strayed so far from the books it is more like an alternate world. You get to know more about Sam and Tara in this season than you do in the books and a few of the minor characters. I enjoyed the role Andy the police officer played in this season. I also have renewed faith in what can only be great and humorous development of the brainless Jason Stackhouse character.
I can't say enough good things about the second season but i will have to mention a few negatives. The first one is that there was too much sex. I mean they really could have had more story and less sex. It was just kind of outrageous the amount of naked people and sex parties you had to wade through to get to the good stuff. Don't get me wrong I am not one to freak over a sex scene of two but when you have to fit one into virtually every episode it gets old for those of us not wanting the porn experience. The second I already mentioned....NO ERIC IN SPANDEX. If you can't tell I am a big Eric Northman fan and I was not so glad that was cut out of the story. Other than that I just loved season two of True Blood.

True Blood Season 1 Review

>> Thursday, June 3, 2010

This has been something I have been meaning to review for a long time. I watched True Blood: The Complete First Season (HBO Series) a long time ago and have had some trouble figuring out if i liked it or not. I have to say I did like it. I couldn't get enough of it to tell you the truth. If my hubby didn't want to watch it with me I would have sat down and watched it in just a few days. I could have done with much less detail on Jason's sex life but I really did enjoy the series.

You are not getting anything even close to the book series by Charliane Harris but if you can separate the books from the show it you might love it. I had trouble treating them as separate entities. My husband who has not read the books liked the series a lot. Now I must warn you this is for adults only! There is a lot of sex in the books but the series found a way to add more.

The series has some components of the books and in the first season the characters are pretty close to the books. They don't do all the same things but the plot line has some similarities. The basics are the same as the first book in the series. There is a serial murderer on the loose and Jason is the main suspect. Jason is Sookie Stackhouse's brother and she is the telepathic waitress who steals the show.... well at least in the books she does.

As in the books vampires have recently announced their existence. They feel it is the right move because of the invention of synthetic blood. The vampires are in demand for drug dealers because their blood gives a human a taste of what it is like to be a vampire.

In the television show they explore the inner lives of other characters especially Jason (not that he has a lot of thoughts). They do an excellent job with some of the characters and I really enjoyed the series but I still can't believe some of the changes they made.

They changed the end and they changed who staked a vampire and gave Bill a punishment that did not exist in the book. You will know when you watch it what I am talking about. Over all I think it was very well done but not really like the books.

True Blood Not True to Southern Vampire Books

>> Saturday, June 6, 2009

Warning if you have not read book one in the Southern Vampire series or are still catching up on True Blood don’t read this unless you want spoilers.

I was rather disappointed in this series, not because it wasn’t a decent series, but because it was so far off from the book. If you plan to watch the series you have to put aside your love for the book because it is loosely based on the events in the book.

They changed so much I don’t see how they are going to follow the books at all. They introduced some characters too soon, and left out some important ones. They left Bubba out and that was disappointing and made for a huge change in the end of the story.

Also they had Bill stake Longfellow the cheating, stealing vampire bartender instead of Eric. Then they send Bill to the Vampire Council to find out his punishment for killing a vampire. The Council made him turn a human and near the end of the series he has to “keep” her. That is just not even close to the book and I cannot see why they would do it.

If that is not enough changes they have this huge Jason storyline with enough casual and kinky sex to make you want to give up on the series. There is also a huge story of Jason and his new woman hooked on Vampire blood otherwise know as V. Most of the changes made for good television but these Jason story-lines were just too much.

They also added a lot that we don’t see in the novel about the other characters and most of it was good. I liked learning more about Sam and Tara and a few of the other minor characters in the book.
While I can’t see where they are going to go with this series I will watch more. I think the acting was above average. I enjoyed watching everything except the Jason storyline. Over all I did enjoy the show but I just couldn’t stop comparing it to the book.

I guess it is really hard for an avid book reader to put that aside when watching something that is supposed to be based on a great book. My husband seemed to really like the series and he is not a reader so I guess I just have to get over it and enjoy it for what it is.
