Feeling Better

>> Sunday, January 31, 2010

Well I started yesterday off feeling better but my heater was broken and within a few hours I was feeling like my house was a sauna. We have had issues with it for a while but usually it will get stuck off and that is easier to handle for me. I am still not sure it is fixed but at least it is not 85 degrees in here anymore. I couldn't work out in the heat and I am not sure it is cooling off this morning I turned the heat down but it seems to keep getting warmer. I will make a call to my step-dad/landlord if it keeps getting hotter but before it hits the 80's again. I need to get some house work done too but the really awesome thing is that I have 4 books done and ready to review.

Thanks to my friend Kristin, that I met last semester in college I borrowed and read three more of the books in the Hollows series by Kim Harrison. I now have books 5-7 read and I have Celia's Puppies read too. I am also hoping that the new book by Kim Harrison due out on February 23 will be released on audio right away. I have been on the treadmill a lot and it is much easier to listen than to read on the treadmill. The Kim Harrison books have a lot of thought in them and the story line is still very interesting and I really like how the characters grow. I will have some reviews up soon.

Evangelion 1.0: You Are (Not) Alone

>> Sunday, January 24, 2010

It has been years since I watched the series and I forgot so much that I am not sure that I qualify to tell you what they left out but they have left out a lot. Personally I always got sick of Shinji and his whining so I am certain some of that is left out. What this seems to be is a condensed version of the Neon Genesis Evangelion Series.

This is part one and it quickly takes you through the first six episodes of the series. The animation is sharper and more pleasing to the eye. They also added some things that were not in the original series that seemed to explain some of the mysteries that I never fully understood. Most of it was exactly like the original series. I don't think you need to see the series to watch this movie but I do recommend it as a must see for all anime fans.

I will attempt to summarize it without giving much away. This takes place in a time where the earth has nearly been destroyed by creatures they call Angels and they have built a city where they can hide (buildings and all) underground. Shinji Ikari's father sends for him to pilot an Eva, the only thing that can defeat and Angel. Shinji's father Gendo heads up the project at NERVE and needs his son to take over for Rei the injured female pilot. Shinji has a lot of issues stemming for being abandoned by his father and then called on to fight to save the world.

You get a lot of action in this and less of the interpersonal conflict. You still know that Rei has an unreal reaspect for Gendo and that Shinji hates his father and doesn't really like himself but it is not the focal point. I really enjoyed watching and I can't wait for part two. It was nice to be able to sit down and watch an overview with extras added. When I watched the original I had to wait like a month in between DVD's. I probably should sit down and watch the series again to get a more coherent picture.

Thursday 13 Movies

>> Thursday, January 21, 2010

Well I don't have a post for you today on the book I finished Celia's Puppies as I have been very busy trying to get in shape and I have a problem that when I get on the computer I have trouble getting off. So I thought I would post a list of some of my favorite movies. I know they are not award winning films but they are mostly action packed movies I can watch over and over. I do tend to watch them while on the treadmill so maybe that is why I like them full of action.

13 of Carries Favorite Movies:

  1. Underworld
  2. Underworld Eveloution
  3. Underworld Rise of the Lycans
  4. Transformers
  5. Transformers Revenge of The Fallen
  6. Resident Evil
  7. Resident Evil Apocalypse
  8. Resident Evil Extinction
  9. The Crow (only the first one)
  10. The Prophecy
  11. Blade
  12. The Last Samuria
  13. Batman Begins
I can't even say the acting is good in all of these movies of course the actions sequences are what counts for me. Maybe I will do a list of anime next week I didn't want to mix them.
If you want to check out my weight loss journey check out my other blog Sexy For Live. I am working hard to loose 40 pounds after 20 I will be looking into getting a new tattoo on my arm instead of some sort of food reward. Have fun and keep reading! I should have a few more books from the Hollows series soon because a friend said she would lend them to me. I am really excited! So I put off my next book until then because I will see her today or tomorrow.

My Internet Went Down

>> Wednesday, January 20, 2010

Yesterday I planned to do a Tuesday Teaser post but the internet was down in my area as well as my phone. That has never happened before. I called the cable company on my cell and they had a pre-recorded message saying that there was mysterious thing causing issues with the phone and internet in the area. Okay that is not what they said but they did neglect to tell me the cause. Then later that night my sister called me on her cell and asked me if my internet was working and she lives with my mom about 20 minutes away.

That was frustrating and I have some plans today I will be back to posting tomorrow!

Quick Blog Update

>> Monday, January 18, 2010

I am working on some new material for posting here. I have some poetry to post and I will be trying to read a book a week but I am not always going to be able to do that. I will also be reviewing things like cool television shows, movies and anime. I think I will start up the Tuesday Teaser posts again as well.

I spent the weekend reflecting on my life and feeling a bit depressed. I don't feel in control of much in my life and I hate feeling that way. I have always struggled with it being all or nothing and it usually ends up being nothing. I give up a lot. So first I am going to focus on something I know I can change. I have done it before and I am going to work hard to get back to a normal weight. I don't really care if I am super skinny anymore I just want to feel good again. So head over to my other blog Sexy For Life and follow that journey. I am going to work on this because it is something that affects every area of my life.

I am not going to give up on blogging but I think I will be posting don't think I will be able to post everyday.

Any Ideas for a Side Job?

>> Friday, January 15, 2010

I am looking to make an income right now but I have a full time job lined up for March and April then I should be able to continue to work there part time. That gives me a month and a half to make some extra cash. I am not giving up on making some money blogging but I would like to be able to make maybe $50 or more dollars a week doing something on the side.

I have a Bachelors degree and I was hoping that would help me to be able to work from home part time. I guess that dream is not going to be a reality at this time because I have not found anything. I have decided that is fine but since I do want to make a little money now I have to find some side jobs. Most of what I have found online that is legit ends up paying like a dollar an hour or less because you have to search for jobs you can do and hope they are going to pay you. I hear Dave Ramsey say deliver pizzas all the time but I don't want to drive for work. I don't mind driving to and home from a job or even to a few job sites but I don't want to deliver something. We have paid off old cars and the repairs would get to be costly if I had to drive all day or evening.

Any ideas that I could look into would be great. I don't have the strength in my legs yet (since I broke my hip and slacked off on my physical therapy) to shovel snow but I can mow grass in the summer if I need to. I am actually feeling a little stir crazy at home with nothing to do. I would love to have an at home job but with nothing specific to do at home I am just bored.

I would like to save enough money to pay cash for a house once we sell our duplex and the race car. If you have any ideas on what I can do to earn extra money or if you live in or near Toledo Ohio and have a project for me to do let me know. If you have writing projects you would be willing to pay me for please email me at sundcarrie@hotmail.com. I will be honest if I don't think I can perform the task and I am not looking for a hand out.

Thanks
Carrie

A Fistful of Charms Book Review

>> Thursday, January 14, 2010

A Fistful of Charms is the 4th book in the Hollows series by Kim Harrison. This is the last book I have and I am disappointed that I need to quit here for now. I don't have any book money in the budget just yet. I can't justify spending more money until I finish some of the books I already bought.

I really enjoyed every minute of this book. In the last book Rachel manages to out wit big Al the demon who want to make her his familiar. She looses one demon mark but gains a new one. So now she owes two demons a favor. She also saves her enemy Trent from the only other witch who can use demon magic like Rachel.

David, the werewolf Rachel met in the last book, needs a pack but he doesn't really want to deal with pack relationships so he asks Rachel to be his alpha female. Rachel agrees to the platonic relationship and gets discounted insurance. This book starts with a pack of wolves confronting Rachel's status as an alpha female. They want her wolf to prove she can be an alpha female with no magic. After this encounter she asks Ceri the elf she saved from big Al if there is anything that can make her were.

There are a few little side stories in this book but most of it is a rescue mission for a huge mess Nick, Rachel X looser boyfriend got himself and Jax into. I wasn't sure Nick was going to stay the X but after the stupid stuff he pulls in this book I don't think we will see him as a romantic interest for Rachel ever again. So if you didn't already hate Nick be prepared for wanting to take him out yourself.

First he takes Jenks son to Michigan to steal an artifact that is very important to all werewolves and vampires alike. Then when he finds it he double-crosses the werewolves he was supposed to sell it to and finds himself a prisoner. Jax escapes but it is still cold in Michigan and pixies can die from the cold. Jax contacts his family and Rachel and Jenk's come to a truce so they can find his son.

Ceri finds Rachel a spell that will help her were and one that will make Jenks big so he can withstand the cold while saving his son. I have to say one of the reasons I loved this book was that it was fun to have Jenks big for most of the book. Rachel and Jenks find Jax reality quickly but she is too soft and feels she must save Nick. This leads to a lot more trouble than she bargained but she can use her alpha status to help her get out of some of the mess. There was a lot of mystery around the were that Rachel changed into and some real wolves on the island that they were holding Nick. I am hoping to hear more about that in a later book but that might just be my love for wolves speaking.

After they get into more trouble Ivy shows up to help with the situation. Some really interesting stuff happens between Ivy and Rachel in this book but you can read the details for yourself. This book has a lot of focus on the relationships that Rachel has with Ivy and Jenks and it makes for a great book mixed tons of magic and action. I really have to wait to read more but if I could get them for free I would already be in the book store or at audible. This book gets five stars.

Every Which Way But Dead by Kim Harrison

>> Monday, January 11, 2010

Every Which Way But Dead is the third installment of The Hollows series. The first two book reviews are:
Dead Which Walking
The Good The Bad And The Undead

This dark novel is set in Cincinnati in the Hollows where few humans dare to live. Rachel a witch, Ivy a living vampire and Jenks a pixie run Vampiric Charms and bring criminals to justice that the human police can't handle.

In the end of the last book you are left with Rachel making a deal with big Al the demon to get Piscary the big bad mean ass dead vampire in prison so she doesn't get killed. Piscary has a lot of control over her best friend Ivy and she wants to save her as well.

So we start the new book with Al trying to claim his prize and make Rachel his familiar but she had bargained for her soul. Something about her DNA and the ability to keep her soul helps her escape the demon for a time and save his old familiar while she is at it. This new character brings a lot of life to the story Ceri is a 1000 year old elf and she knows everything there is to know about demon magic.

In the first half of the book there is a lot of excitement but there seems to be bits and pieces of a story. I didn't mind because it gave you a lot of background info on some of the new and old characters. You meed a werewolf named David who turns out to be a stand up guy and a very enjoyable addition to the cast of characters. My biggest let down was a few chapters in Jenks and Rachel fight and Jenks takes off for the rest of the book. The stubborn pixie  refuses to accept any apologies at all and won't even speak to Rachel.

David is a were insurance agent and apparently weres are know for running run a great deal of insurance agencies. He needs to know what happened to the fish that Rachel stole in the last book and he stops in just as big Al is trying to drag Rachel into the everafter.

On another note it just so happens that Trent Kalamack's right hand man wants to hire Rachel to escort Trent to an important meeting. He was bitten by a vampire in the last book and can't vouch for how safe he can keep his boss. Rachel reluctantly accepts and things turn ugly. Once the book starts to lead to Trent the book takes off and the story unfolds.

I can't help but mention that Rachel looses the looser Nick in this book. She still seems to have mixed feelings but she lets Kisten take her on a date as long as no blood is involved and some sparks begin to fly. Nick left town early in the book and everyone around Rachel told her he wasn't coming back, It took her awhile to realize it but everything they said would happen did. He was no loss in my book I thought he was a liar. Who knows what will happen with Kisten but it was nice to learn more about him.

I am giving this book 4.5 out of 5 stars. I enjoyed every minute of it but I do realize some people don't like the plot to start half way through the novel. I am sure I would feel the same if the characters were not as interesting. Kim Harrison does an amazing job developing her Hollows crew I am very impressed. Here is the real kicker Rachel is still not my favorite character I have grown to like her a lot but Ivy and Jenks above Rachel in my book.

Wolf and Where Are You a few of my Poems

>> Saturday, January 9, 2010

Here are a few poems I am working on. They never seem to be finished. I submitted some of them for my final portfolio in my creative writing class. My teacher was a very successful poet Rane Arroyo. I usually enjoyed his class but sometimes I felt like he spent a lot of time outline what was wrong with everyone's writing and not helping us figure out what good writing was. It may have been his strategy because that was the first half of the semester by the second half of the semester he spent more time showing us what was good but still helping us spot mistakes.

These poems have not been worked on recently and they are not complete I just wanted to share some of my work and didn't want to publish things I might submit for pay or just to be published. Please comment I love to hear what others think.

Wolf by Carrie Sund

Running fast, Running free, my nose burns from the cold
My eyes sting as I run faster still
But I am warm as the full moon beckons me
To the hunt
Frosty Evergreens sparkle in the wind
The dark forest opens before me, I claim it as mine
I answer to know one
I am Alpha

Where Are You by Carrie Sund

God where are you?
I believe in you, I know you are there, somewhere.
I want you to be real, but where do you hide….
When I need you most?
When I am lost so are you
When I am sad I still feel alone
Is this life a nasty prank?
Yes, I think it is
You created us to do you bidding
And abandon us when don’t know what to do
God where are you?
Today as I sit in pain, I call and hear no answer
Lord just tell me one thing
Why don’t You care?

Check out some of my Professors books!

Reading Celia's Puppies

>> Friday, January 8, 2010

I am reading Celia's Puppies and I am had trouble putting it down to get my workout, housework and blog work done. I still have two Kim Harrison books to review they will be up in the next few days. I am really trying to get a lot of my books read before I go back to work. I still have a good 25 books left to read. That doesn't include the non-fiction books. I plan to review some of those books at on my other blog Sexy For Life. I did get up from my chair around noon to work out and get some housework and blog stuff done.

I have to tell you unless something goes really wrong this book is worth the read. There are no vampires of werewolves but a group of very lovable characters. You just get sucked into their lives and you just have to know what happens next.

I hope to get all the reviews up by next Friday. I want to get some of the books that I have finished starting with ones that I have read the first one or two in the series. I have read Witch Fire and have the next two sitting on my book shelf. I have read three of the four Cassandra Palmer books I have. I have read a few of the Night Huntress books and have one more of those. I have two more in the Anna Strong series and two more in the Blue Bloods series. Then I have a bunch more that I have not started. I am trying to pile up money in gift cards through a few amazon programs so I can buy the next one in each series I like.

Dead and Gone Book Review

>> Thursday, January 7, 2010

Dead and Gone is the ninth book in the Sookie Stackhouse series.
 Here are the previous Reviews:
Dead Until Dark
Living Dead In Dallas
Club Dead
Dead to the World

Dead as a Doornail

Definitely Dead
All Together Dead
From Dead to Worse
A Touch of Dead

Again I had a little trouble remembering what came from the books and what came from True Blood. Especially when Eric talked about his origins and Sam went to see his mom who passed shifting to him. I think it is partially because it has been so long since I read the first books.

Just another WARNING that if you have not read the first eight books you may get some spoilers. You do need to read the other books or you won't get a thing that is going on.

This book was so much fun I didn't want it to end. Some of that is because I am a huge fan of Eric Northman and he played his role perfectly in this book. You see a lot of Sam the shape-shifter as the weres have come out of the closet. His step-dad promptly shoots his mother when she changes and Sam has to leave town to help his family. Shortly after he leaves Sookie to manage the bar a were-panther is crucified in the parking lot at Merlot's. Sookie's x-friend quit Arlene quit the bar and is out to get Sookie because of the were news. On top of that Eric tricks Sookie into some sort of wierd vampire marriage to keep her safe from the new vampire regime.

This all happens fairly early in the book but the real excitement is when Nial comes to visit Sookie and lets her know she is in danger because there is a war going on in fairyland and has spilled over into her world. Nial's enemies are after her and she now needs protection. So guess who makes another appearance ...... Bubba! I missed him. On top of that she has Eric and Bill and a few weres and Amelia the witch to protect her.

This book deserves five stars out of five I was very happy with it and the question you are left with at the end just peaks your interest all that much more. I am still rooting for Sookie to be with Eric but Sam comes in a close second for me. I like Eric because she seems to feel really safe with him and he is also as independent as she is. I have really liked him since he lost his memory.

Upcoming Reviews

>> Wednesday, January 6, 2010

I have three reviews to do. Over the last few days I didn't feel so well so I got some reading done. Finished Every Which Way But Dead and A Fistful of Charms books three and four in the Hollows series by Kim Harrison. Click on the titles to see the previous reviews Dead Witch Walking and The Good The Bad and The Undead. These books just keep getting better and as soon as I feel good for more than a few hours I will be posting the reviews plus I still need to get one up for Dead and Gone. I am all out of Hollows books but there are at least three more plus one that can be pre-ordered.

I have to save some money so I will just have to read some of my already purchased books before I continue on in this series. I only have two series that I am dying to read the next one and will stop everything for right now. That would be the Mercy Thompson series and the Kate Daniels series.
