A Touch of Dead Short Stories about Sookie Stackhouse

I highly enjoyed this book of short stories. There were five short stories and each one filled in some gaps in my book knowledge. This really is a must read for the fans of the Sookie Stackhouse novels. If you love stories that include fairies and vampires and shape-shifters you will not be disappointed. Wherever Sookie goes there is trouble and it shows up in all these stories.


The stories include"Fairy Dust,""One Word Answer," "Dracula Night," "Lucky," and "Giftwrap."


I loved all the stories if you are a big Eric fan like I am you will love Dracula Night as vampire Eric prepares Fangtasia for a possible appearance of the legendary vampire. He invites Sookie to his big bash and of course there is trouble.


I am not sure on the time line of these stories because it is hard for me to remember which book had what story line and how much was revealed in each. The only thing I know for sure is that the last story takes place between book eight and book nine. If you have read most of the books go ahead and read the short stories if you just picked up the first book hold off a bit.



 This book is short and I heard a lot of people were disappointed with that but I was not. These stories have been published in other books so if you want something longer you may want to seek these books out. I just wanted the Sookie stories so it was a great investment for me. I would give this book 4 stars out of 5.

Charliane Harris and Kim Harrison Book Reviews Comming Soon

I finished two more books and I just don't want to wait until May for the next Sookie Stackhouse book. I read A Touch of Dead and Dead and Gone over the last few days. I then spent some time looking up when the next book is going to be released and I was tempted to throw a three year old type fit.


I have really enjoyed this series but that is besides the point that they left you with the big question at the end that just begs to be answered. I also can't quite figure out what to call this series because when I read the first one it was called The Southern Vampire Mysteries and now it is the Sookie Stackhouse novels. Not that that is a big deal but it is rather confusing.



I am going to knock out a few more of the Hallows books by Kim Harrison by the end of this week as well. Then the reviews will start rolling in regularly for about a month or two until I go back to work in March. I work full time for about 6-8 weeks then probably part time.

Tempted House of Night 6 Book Review

This book was great. I loved almost every minute of it unlike the last book that I was bored with. The only thing that still gets to me is that this book has a bunch of teen banter that just bugs me. 


They made some improvements to the back story problems they have had in each book. In the first five books they spent large portions of the first few chapters rehashing what happened in the previous books. In this book they did not spend much time at all on that, but gave you subtle hints and reminders. Also the teens in the book were starting to act more mature than in any other book. For these two improvements I was extremely grateful. 

WARNING this review will contain spoilers if you have not read books 1-5. I try not to give away too much about the current book but you need to read books 1-5 before reading this review.



This book was fun and I was never bored. Zoey Redbird has a lot to think about with three boyfriends and the world as we know it about to end if she can't figure out what to do next. She is learning to handle the more important things instead of worrying about the men who all want to be with her. Now she has Eric, Stark and Heath as well as the evil Kolona all vying for her attention.


She didn't kill Kolona and Neferet in the last book just sent them away temporally. Now that she knows her connection with Kolona he is invading her dreams and she starts to feel things for him that defy all logic. Part of her is the woman created to love the evil beast and part of her is still Zoey Redbird.She is forced to make decisions based on the truth and turns to guidance from her goddess.

On top of the mess with Kolona, Zoey also has to confront Stevie Rae who has been hiding things from her. There are more red fledglings and they are bad news. Stevie Rae also has her own side plot in this book which I can't wait to see developed later. I can't give it away now but it has to do with her always wanting to give others a chance to change. 


There is a great plot going on with Stark, Heath and Zoey that left me saying "you have to be kidding me" in the end. Stark accepts his role as his priestesses warrior and Heath accepts his role as Zoey's consort and they begin to work together as a team well at least when it is important. In the end they left you with you jaw dropping and you fists raised at the time you will have to wait to find out what is going on.


I wish I could write more but I might give away too much. This book was one of the best thus far and because of the level of entertainment and the improvements made I am giving this book 5 stars. It is not the best book I have ever read but it was good and I just can't say enough for the improvements in this book.

Changes in the New Year

I have had a lot of stuff to do this holiday season. I am working on getting my house really clean this week. I asked my husband to get on the Total Money Makeover (by Dave Ramsey) plan with me for Christmas. I am going to stop whining and get a few jobs to put 50% or more down on a house. We have some things we can sell like a race car and the duplex we have had on the market forever.


I have decided that if we can get to the point where we only have one small house payment instead of rent and a house payment for the duplex then I won't have many worries and I can work on becoming a writer without feeling stressed out. I can work a little at a time at making my dream a reality for now.


I am also getting on a new eating plan. I am going back to eating natural foods as much as I can. I bought a nice food processor with a blender. I am going to make a lot of stuff from scratch and stop eating so many processed foods. One of the reasons I hate doing that is I hate chopping everything up by hand so I decided that it was worth it to buy this item. I will be buying more fresh foods and getting healthier.


I will have a review for Tempted up this week I have to go back and review it a little because things went a little crazy around here for a few weeks.

I am done with school!

I submitted my last assignment today and I am not going back. I can not afford to spend that much money on another degree. I am not going to give up on my dream to do something I love for a living either. I already have a degree I don't need to waste money on another one. 


I love to read and I love to write but I also love to stay at home as much as possible. Gee do you think someone would pay me to read all day?? I hope I can do something from home someday but for now I will work part time out side of the home and attempt to submit some poems, articles and short stories on my days off. 


I am going to read up how to become a better writer. I might take some workshops to improve my writing but I am not going to go back to a big university right now. While I had two great teachers this semester I had one that I wanted to cuss out just about every class period. If you know me then you know that I use swear words sparingly and each time i entered his classroom I could feel them about to burst forth. I don't really want to deal with that again. I forgot how much of a burden school can be sometimes.



I am up past midnight which is unusual for me. I have been drinking coffee too late again hope I am not sounding like a crazy person. I kind of feel like one today. I am not sure what I want to be now that I am all grown up other than a writer and someone who doesn't have to travel to work.

Celia's Puppies Comming Soon!

I should be getting a copy of Celia's Puppies soon. It is the second installment of the Denver Cereal by Claudia Hall Christian. I have to say she is one of my FAVORITE authors. You can take a look here at The Denver Cereal website and The Fey is great as well. I am so excited to read the new book.

I am just about done with school and then I will go back to work part time and work on my writing on my days off. I am going to make a plan to get something published before I decide on going back to school. I have talked to a lot of people and decided that spending 12000 dollars or more a year to get another degree might not be worth it. It is not what makes you a good writer and it will not cause a publishing company to consider your work over someone who has no credentials but writes well. So I am going to learn more on my own about writing well.

Last Few Weeks

I have a lot to do the last few weeks of school. I had a meltdown last week and just didn't get anything done. I did read Tempted the latest House of Night book and I have been reading a poetry book by Susan Deer Cloud who visited my Creative Writing class. I will have a few things to review when I finish classes. I have a 25 page portfolio to put together for creative writing. I have some of that done but I can't stop revising what I have to concentrate on what I don't have. I am just going to have to move on for now.

I also have portfolio for another class that I have to revise and organize. I have most of the work for that done except the 2-3 page summary and the 7-9 page final project. I am doing a film review and I think I am going to go with the first Transformers movie because I want this to be a fun project.

Then for another class I have a 5-7 page paper to do on The Scarlet Letter. I have been thinking about it since my last paper was due and I think I have some pretty good ideas. I think this class is primarily responsible for my string of migraines the last few weeks. This teacher makes me feel stupid. I have actually only had a few teachers like that in my life but they were math and science teachers. He is the reason I was starting to believe that I could never be a writer.

After some encouragement from another professor and a poet I feel more confident in my dream. It will just take longer than I expected because if I get a degree in English I need to pay cash for it. I will not go into debt to finance my dream.
